Geometer's Sketchpad

The Geometer's Sketchpad is a dynamic construction and exploration tool that adds a powerful dimension to the study of mathematics.

Versatile and easy to use, Sketchpad allows students to understand mathematics in ways that are not possible with traditional tools—or with other software programs.

With Sketchpad, we can construct objects, figures, and diagrams and explore their mathematical properties by dragging objects with the mouse. As shapes change, all mathematical relationships are preserved, allowing students to examine an entire set of similar cases in a matter of seconds.

With its friendly user interface, Sketchpad is easy to use and lets students focus on the mathematics, not the software. It works with an overhead projector, with one or two classroom computers, or in a computer lab.

Plus, you can quickly and easily generate teaching aids such as worksheets, tests, reports, and presentations by exporting Sketchpad files to word-processing programs and spreadsheets, other drawing programs, and the Internet.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Adobe Photoshop, or simply Photoshop, is a graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems. Photoshop contains a large selection of drawing tools, filters, color adjustment capabilities, and other tools designed to manipulate images in almost any way.

Although primarily designed to edit images for paper-based printing, Photoshop is used increasingly to produce images for the World Wide Web. Photoshop also has strong ties with other Adobe software for media editing, animation and authoring. Files in Photoshop's native format, .PSD, can be exported to and from Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Adobe Encore DVD to make professional standard DVDs, provide non-linear editing and special effects services such as backgrounds, textures and so on for television, film and the Web.

Photoshop can deal with a number of different color models such RGB color model, Lab color model, CMYK color model, Grayscale, Bitmap and Duotone. The PSD (Photoshop Document) format stores an image as a set of layers, including text, masks, opacity, blend modes, color channels, alpha channels, Clipping paths, and duotone settings.

Meanwhile for teachers, there also 6 menus, namely Model P&P, Pentaksiran, Belajar IT, Pakatan pintar, SP& HSP ( curriculum specification), Bahan P&P. Pengurusan sekolah, profesion, pentaksiran, pakatan pintar and SP& HSP are the menus for school administrators.

TV Pendidikan

TV Pendidikan is a television channel on Malaysia's Astro satellite service. Before its integration with Astro, TV Pendidikan had been aired in Malaysia's local television station TV2. TV Pendidikan is fully owned and produced by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia and it shows various programmes for various school subjects. Since TV Pendidikan aired time only lasted for half a day, the rest of the air time is taken over by Astro.

TV Pendidikan is divided into 2 slots, educational programs slot and technology programs slot. The educational slot shows various programs from TV Pendidikan, which wholefully caters for secondary school students. The technology slot used to feature television programmes from TechTV international, which is now unavailable after TechTV's merger with G4. Ever since the merger of TechTV and G4, Astro had to showed repeatedly old episodes of TechTV shows and now Astro has reached an agreement with G4TechTV to buy some of their previous episodes television series like The Screen Savers, X-Play and more. However, many 'tech' viewers were annoyed at Astro for replacing scheduled programmes with others unrelated to G4.

The educational slot is aired every Monday to Thursday for half day (late morning to early afternoon), while the technology slot airs the rest of the time and occupied the whole Saturday to Sunday.

In my opinion, TV Pendidikan website does not much resourceful like myschoolnet. The contains of TV Pendidikan should upgraded so that it really benefits the students and teachers and give the confidence to use it for Teaching and Learning purposes in schools. Unless it would not achieve its objective and will be another failure project.

5 March 2007

This week we were given the example of the Teaching Model prepared using Smart Board by previous batch students. We get some rough idea how do carry on our project by looking at those projects. We were also introduced on how to print a label on a CD and Mr.Sharil provide us with the softcopy of the label. This labels actually easy can be created by using Nero Cover Designer. Discussion regarding the project also carried out during the class session and since all my group members are from Mathematic Majoring we choose to do project for Maths.

Teaching Model

Teaching Model

In today’s class, we learned bout Teaching Models.
Teaching models prescribe tested steps and procedures to effectively generate desired outcomes. In general, models can be classified along a continuum from instructor-directed, to student-instructor negotiated, to student-directed Although there number of teaching models but there two widely used models are ASSURE and ADDIE. Both of this models invoved 5 steps as shown below.

Model ASSURE

Analyze learners
State objectives
Select instructional methods, media, and materials
Utilize media and materials
Require learner participation
Evaluate and revise

Model ASSURE

A
nalysis --> Design --> Development --> Implementation --> Evaluation

Although each and every steps in the models have their own importance but Analysis is the most important step.
In the analyze phase, the instructional problem is clarified, the goals and objectives are established, and the learning environment and learner characteristics are identified. This stage also will help providing back routes in case the model unable to achieve its objective.

Web based software - HOT POTATOES

Web based softwares which can be used in Teaching and Learning process will help the teachers to engage their students. The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web.

HARDWARE DRIVERS

Lesson 3 (30 Jan 2007)

All the internal and external hardwares ( soundcards, graphic cards, printers etc)of a computers need a driver (a program that controls the exchange of information between an application and a device) in order to function. Usually these drivers included in a CD and come with hardware itself. Wat happen if reinstall this drivers but loss the driver CD ready....It will take some time if you wan to request this CD from related department... and you cannot use that divice until you get that driver installed...No need to panic... Actually we can download this drivers from manufactures official website or special sites that providing this drivers for free.. the following site offering free downloading driver services.
www.driverguide.com
www.download.com
But sometimes we need to register before we able to use this service. Remember different devices requires different drivers. Even different Operating system will require different version of driver. They are unique.

Hardwares

In this week's lesson, i as well my other friends learned how to set up hardwares such as laptop, Lcd projector, printers that we will be using in schools soon. We are given chance to do the setup practically even some of us already knew how to do it. Definitely its a new knowledge for the beginners. The most interesting session is the session on IWB or Interactive White Board. Its something new for all of us. All of us again given an oppurtunity to try out the IWB. I think by using the IWB we can really engage with the students. We also introduced a new program called smartboard which is usefull when using with an IWB. Hopefully the schools provided with this IWB by the time we posted.

These are a few websites providing free driver downloading services :-

Engaging In Education

One of the major question while teaching in class room, are we as teachers really engaging with the students. If we fail to engage with the students the message we want to deliver to the students will not received or absorb by them. This the cause why the students find the class is boring or not interesting. One of the way to engage the students is with integrating the technology such as Integrated White Board. But at the same time we should bare in the mind integrating technology is not something that we use technology for the sake of using it.
This is one of the link that contains some information how to engage the students in class room :
